Dust Out Your Laptop

Has your laptop’s fan been louder lately? If you’ve had your laptop for over six months it may be time to dust it. Dusting your laptop will make it quieter and will increase the battery life (because it won’t heat up as much).

To dust a laptop you should use dry, compressed air, and aim it at the CPU heatsink while the laptop is off. You don’t need a lot of air; just enough to get the dust out. This is very simple to do and there’s not much else to say. Dust about every six months for optimal results.

Your laptop will not be ruined by being dusted; however, you should make sure it is completely off before dusting to eliminate resistance with the fan (if you dust your laptop while it’s on the fan bearing can go bad and your fan will be louder).

Dusting is a great way to keep everything running smoothly. I always dust my desktop every month especially behind the CPU and everything because it just builds up. 6 months is proper for both though.

I believe you can pick up a can of compressed air for around $8-$10 in Target. Just take the cheapest one because really, compressed air is compressed air and in my opinion they all work the same.

It’s the metal thing next to the fan. It’s the thing the air moves through before it comes out (and that’s why the air that comes out is warm).
